No default printer has been selected

Default printer settings

Written by Denisa Badarau

ConQuest detects the Windows default printer. This error usually occurs when no default printer has been selected in Windows, but sometimes when the printer is set automatically by Group Policy, it does not set in a way ConQuest can detect. Resetting it manually overrides this.

  1. Open the Windows Settings (the cog in the start menu)

  2. Select Devices - this is usually the second item in the top row.

  3. Select Printers on the left

  4. If 'Let Windows manage my default printer' is ticked, untick it.

  5. One of the printers should have default in grey just below it. If not, or if this is not the printer you want to use, skip to step 6. If this is the printer you want to use:

    1. Highlight any other printer and click Manage

    2. Click 'Set as Default'

    3. Click Back

    4. Proceed to step 7

  6. If none of the printers has Default in grey below it:

  7. Highlight the printer you wish to be default and click Manage

  8. Click 'Set as Default'

  9. Click Back

  10. Check that the correct printer now has Default in grey below it.

  11. You may need to restart ConQuest to get it to detect this new setting

If Windows will not allow you to complete the steps above, contact your IT for assistance.
