Icons, windows and text not displaying correctly on all environments

All application Icons are not displaying correctly. Windows are opening to display half the information and text is being scrunched together. Cannot read screen properly. Icons incomplete in the MyDesk environment.

This is caused when the Windows Display Scale and layout settings are set to larger than recommended for use with ConQuest (more than 100%).

If you are using Windows 7:

  1. Right-click on Desktop

  2. Select Personalize

  3. Click Display

  4. Set to Smaller (100%).

If you are using Windows 8/10:

  1. Right-click Desktop

  2. Select Display Settings.

  3. In the Scale and layout section, use the Change the size of text, apps, and other items drop-down option and select 100%.

  4. Restart ConQuest.

If you are using Windows 11:

  1. Right-click Desktop

  2. Select Display Settings.

  3. On the main display, make sure in the Scale and layout section the Scale is set up to 100%.

  4. Restart ConQuest.

Note: You can check which one is your main display with the Multiple Displays button (click the down arrow if the drop-down menu is closed). If the highlighted display has the Make this my main display button ticked, then that monitor needs to be set to 100% scaling.

If you are accessing ConQuest through our Hosted Environment, your remote session will remain after you have closed the application by using the X button, so it will not pick up any changes you have made to your scaling settings.

If you are using Remote Desktop, ConQuest can be closed but you will need the server window open.

For all of the above, the process is the same:

  1. Follow the Display Settings change process according to your Windows version

  2. Press the CTRL+ALT+END keys at the same time whilst you have the ConQuest screen open

  3. This will give you the option to Sign out and you have to choose it.

  4. When you next start ConQuest, it should then work correctly. Once this has been done, you can change your settings back again if required, as the settings will only update when a new session is started.

On a Mac with parallels, please follow the below steps:

  1. Click the cog at the top right as this will bring up the Options

  2. Under Hardware go to Graphics and set it to Scaling.

  3. This will then let you turn off the custom scaling and it will go back to 100% and also be readable on the retina screen, it shouldn't be necessary to fiddle with the resolution.

If you are encountering this issue on the MyDesk version of ConQuest, you need to follow the same steps and additionaly, change the compatibility mode.

To change compatibility mode:

  1. Please look on the bottom right corner of your main display

  2. Click on the arrow pointing up

  3. Right click on the Citrix Workspace icon

  4. Click Advanced Preferences

  5. Click High DPI

  6. Now select one of the other options: Yes or Let the operating system scale the resolution, based on your preferences

  7. Click Save and restart ConQuest

Note: If the screen size needs to be adjusted this should be done using the Resolution settings rather than the Scale and layout settings.

If you have more than one screen you should set all of them to 100% as an application's graphical settings are not necessarily being taken from the screen you would expect.
Once ConQuest is open, you should be able to change the settings on the other screens as convenient.
