How you would go about this depends on what you're hoping to achieve:
To duplicate the structure of a bill with sub-bills without duplicating the contained items:
Go to the Bill Summary by clicking the bill title with the icon of three dots and three lines to its left at the top of the View window.
Tick Allow Changes.
Highlight the Title Bill you wish to duplicate.
Click Add Like and enter the new bill number
Click OK, you will now have an empty bill with the new number and the same title and sub-bill titles as the original. (it will not copy the Items within the bill sections)
Rename the title bill to the required name.
To duplicate the bills of an entire project, including items:
From the Project Register make however many copies of the project you need. Each one will require a code. If you wish to make a project from multiple copies of a particular bill and its sub-bills within a project, without the other bills, first copy the project and delete the unwanted bills, and then proceed to copy this however many times you need.
Enter each project in turn and amend the bill numbers so that they do not conflict with the original project or any of the other copy projects, ie, if you have bills 1-3 in your original project, and two copies, the second project should have bills 4-6 and the third 7-9.
From the Tools menu select Estimating and then Bill Merging.
It will ask if your summaries are the same or unique. Select Unique.
It will ask if your projects contain Dims or Q-Dims. If you are sure they do not, select No. Even if no Dims or Q-dims are present, the attempt will slow the process down considerably.
Next, it will ask what you want to do with duplicate items. These should only occur if you have duplicate references in your original project. If you are not sure if you do or not, it is best to select Prompt, to be asked each time. If you know you do, you can either choose Skip to copy only one of each identically referenced item, or Copy to copy them all.
It will then ask for a Job Name: This will be the code of your final merged project, rather than the description, and must not already exist.
Next, it will display the list of projects for you to select. Double-click on each of the projects you wish to be included, ie, your original project and each of the copies.
Once you have selected them all, close this window.
It will now begin to copy the contents of your original job and the copies into the destination job, and, if relevant, prompt you for what to do about any duplicate items.
Once it is completed, a small OK button will appear at the bottom of the status panel at the top right of the window. Click this.
From the Project Register you will now be able to select the new project to check it is what you want and, if desired, delete the original and copy jobs to tidy up.
The project will not have any Project Register details. If desired, once happy that all is correct, you can zip the project and then import it over the top of the original project, choosing not to update the project register.
To duplicate the items within a sub-bill in another sub-bill - this allows you to copy items between projects but not for more than one sub-bill at a time:
Create the sub-bill you wish the items to be placed in
From the Tools menu select Estimating then Copy Items
This will give you a list of projects. Double-click the one you wish to copy from.
It will ask you if you want to copy a range of items or do a search. Click Range if you want to copy all the items in the sub-bill, or a continuous selection of them.
Double-click on the sub-bill your items are in.
Double-click on the first item you wish to copy. This will appear in Start Item.
Double-click on the last item you wish to copy. This will appear in End Item.
In the pop-up, select which aspects of the items you wish to copy. Note that if you copy the references, you cannot then select where in the bill the items appear.
Double-click the project you wish to copy to.
Double-click the bill you wish to copy to.
If this bill already contains items, click Append to add the items on to the end or Select to insert the items at the selected point.
If the bill does not already contain items, it will advise you of this and just ask if you wish to proceed with the copy.
Your items are now within the destination bill.
Note: Depending on the permissions setup you have, you may not be able to delete projects, and if so, the methods which require copying projects may lead to a very littered project register. You should be able to at least mark these copies as Not Live.
