The Copy Items feature can be used to copy single items or groups of items to a different bill in the same project or in a different project. The items must be in the same sub-bill, but you can select either a continuous range or identify them with a search. The easiest way to do the search is usually to put flags on the items you want to use before you start.
The projects must both use the same library.
Be aware that any cloned resources against the items you are copying will not be copied as-is and will either become blank or revert to the library description.
To use this feature:
Go to Tools, then select Estimating and Copy Items.
This will bring up a list of your projects. Double-click the project you want to copy from
You now have the option of Range or Search
Range will allow you to select a continuous group of items from within a sub-bill
Search will let you search for items within a sub-bill that match specific criteria
In this example, we will use Range
After Range has been clicked, the bill structure of the project will appear. Double-click the (sub) bill you wish to copy items from
The items within that bill will appear. Double-click the first one you want to copy, this will appear in the Start Item box at the bottom left.
Double-click the last item you want to copy. This will appear in the End Item box and you will then get a pop-up asking which aspects of the items you wish to copy. This allows for example, copying the items without their adjustments or with the buildups cleared. Note that if you include the Reference, then this will determine where in the target bill the items appear, even if you later select Append.
Click OK. You will then get the list of projects again to select your destination.
Double-click the project you wish to copy to.
Double-click the bill you want the items to be copied to
If the bill already contains items, you can choose Append or double-click the item number you want the items to be applied after. If you have selected to include the Reference, this will not work as you might expect.
Click Yes to proceed with the copy.
You can now check that the items are where you expect them to be.
If the Unknown Error 104 message is given, run Check Job on all projects for error messages.
If no errors are given, ensure you have the Reference options ticked when selecting what information is to be copied over; not selecting this can cause the issue.
