Troubleshoot library switching errors in ConQuest

Resolve common library switching and overwrite errors you may encounter in ConQuest, including inactive library errors, overwrite failures and library corruption issues.

Written by Sunil

Libraries in ConQuest store the rates, resources and formulas that projects reference. Switching, updating or overwriting libraries can produce a range of errors depending on how the library is configured and whether the correct access is in place. This article covers the most common issues and how to resolve them.

Error: 'The current library is not active'

This error appears when the library name you specified is not in your active Libraries list. To add the library:

  1. Open Options, then Libraries.

  2. Enter the 4-digit library name in the first cell.

  3. Select Change to browse to the folder where the library is located, then click OK.

  4. Restart the application — the project will now be available.

Library overwrite button is greyed out

The Overwrite button is only available to Master users with an installed library selected. Check the following:

  • Confirm you are logged in as a Master user.

  • Confirm the target library shows as Installed.

  • Confirm at least one other installed library exists to use as the source.

Overwrite blocked — project lock error

This error appears when another user has a project open that uses the source or target library. The error message shows the username and project name.

  1. Ask the named user to close their project, then try again.

  2. If the user is unavailable, the project lock expires when their session closes.

Library appears missing after a failed overwrite

If the overwrite was interrupted mid-operation, the target library may have been renamed to a temporary name beginning with __ow_. Do not attempt another overwrite.

⚠️Important: Contact Access support with the library name and the approximate time of failure. Support can identify the temporary record and restore the library via the database.

Projects show the wrong library after an overwrite

All projects should automatically relink to the target library after a successful overwrite. If a project still references the old library, contact Access support — this may indicate the relinking step failed part-way through.

Library corruption or 'Breaks and Missing data' errors

If you receive errors related to library data, or see breaks and missing data when printing, run the Check Library function first:

  1. Open ConQuest and make a project current.

  2. Check the bottom menu to confirm the correct library is selected.

  3. Click Tools, then select Check Library, and press OK.

  4. Note any errors reported that cannot be fixed automatically, or any print routine displaying Breaks and Missing data.

If errors remain after running Check Library, or the original error persists, ConQuest Support will need to investigate the library. To allow support to do this:

  1. Click Tools.

  2. Select Zip, then Current Library.

  3. Send the zipped file to Access support.

Raise a support ticket

Raise a support ticket if:

  • You cannot resolve a library error using the steps above.

  • A library is missing or shows as not installed after an overwrite.

  • Check Library reports errors that cannot be fixed automatically.

Include the library name, the exact error message and the steps you completed before contacting support.
