Updating/Amending Material resources in the library

How to add/update Material resources in the Library

Written by Alina Stepanek

Library management requires a different password. This is in the passwords list provided when the software is installed. If nobody knows what this is, we will need an email from management before we can provide it.

Care should be taken when making changes to the libraries, and if you have a network install accessed by multiple users, this should be done with an 'offline' copy of the library and ideally by one nominated person, to ensure that changes made by one person are not overwritten by another. If you want to be configured for this, please continue with a support member for further assistance.

The library should always be backed up before making changes.

  1. Ensure that you are in a job which uses the appropriate library

  2. From the Tools menu select Zip and then Current Library

  3. Give this file a name, ideally with the date in so that the latest one is easily identified. It is a good idea to keep several such backups rather than overwriting them each time, in case problems go unnoticed for a while.

Adding Resources:

When you load a material from the library it will display both the Material Title and the Material Resource name, the combined total characters must be no more than 40, including spaces. If your combined total is more than 40 you will not be able to add the new resource, a 'Truncating resource' error will be displayed.

  1. Add new Material Heading if needed: Library, Resources, Material Headings, you can Add, Insert, Edit and Delete (Warning: Delete will remove all resources listed within the Material Section)

  2. Select the Allow Changes button and select Title to begin, enter a title name and press OK, it will appear at the bottom of the current resource list.

  3. Then select Add to add a Resource name, this should appear at the bottom of the resource list under the new Title just created. Keep adding until the list of resource names are entered. Once they are all added, the resource names need to be linked to the title line.

  4. Highlight the Title line then press the Ctrl key and select all the resource names that are to be linked to the title.

  5. Press the Link button.

  6. Click to highlight just the Title line and select the View button, this will highlight all the linked resources for that title. They must be consecutive.

  7. If the resource name is linked incorrectly, highlight the resource name and press the Break button. Click in the title line and press the View button.

Updating Material Resource Descriptions:

  1. Select the Allow Changes button and select the resource description cell to be changed.

  2. Type the new name and move from the cell, if the combined linked total is more that 40 characters it will not save the changed text and give a warning message.

The Linked function on materials allows you to add multiple entries for Sizes etc without having to type the full name each time. Unlinked materials would not display the title in the Buildup window and this can be confusing:

Example for Blocks

Title : Lightweight; Solid 3.5N/mm2
Resource names: 50mm
75mm
90mm

All resource names linked to the title, when adding 75mm to the Buildup it will display as:
Lightweight; Solid 3.5N/mm2 50mm

If not linked it will display as the following in the buildup:
50mm

This could be 50mm of anything.

When you've finished editing resources, make sure you log out of the library management password, to avoid accidental changes.
