Waste is the % of a material resource which is expected to be lost. This can be due to how the purchase quantities of the material, such as something which comes in 10l tins but of which on average only 8l is required, or it can be down to losses on site such as breakages or theft.
Waste is a way of accounting for loss to try and give a more accurate reflection of the quantities of materials needed to complete work.
Waste is only applied to Materials
Wastage is factored into the Material Resource rate under the Wastage % box. To access this window double click on the Rate cell within the Buildup window, when editing the Library or in the Job resources Window. The figure should be entered as the % of wastage the material resource will usually have.
The Calculator symbol in the Blue box brings up the wastage Calculator. The wastage calculator is not accessible through the Library rate, only on the Job rates.
The wastage calculator allows you to enter any figure in any of the boxes to factor it back onto the wastage. This means that users could update their projects with actual historical wastage. To have these amounts used automatically in future, they would have to be altered on the library rather than in a particular project.
The Material Wastage is also reported on the Tender Adjudication Sheet on the Materials Analysis Sheet.
